Hebei Spirit – The Nautical Institute’s response

NauticalInstitute

This time of year is typically one of reflection, and looking back, 2008 has proven itself to be an incredibly testing time for seafarers the world over. While piracy and cyclical trade downturns are as old as shipping itself, it is the all too common, modern day phenomena of seafarer criminalisation that has once again caused a huge degree of concern.

One Hundred Years of British Naval Aviation

B1546

The author has traced the full history of British naval aviation from the writings of Admiral Thomas Cockrane more than two hundred years ago, through the use of balloons and then towed kites to the first aeroplanes and airships, on through the triumphs of World War II and into the Cold War, then through the Energy Wars and on into the future with new large carriers due to build and the increasing use of UAVs. This is not the book for those seeking a politically correct history of the Fleet Air Arm, but it is an accurate account of the extraordinary story of innovation and great courage played against the neglect and failures of politicians keen to save money. By adopting the electronic format, the publisher has been able to produce a heavily illustrated book with concise but comprehensive text at a very low price.

The French government and Dassault Aviation have signed an agreement…

Rafale1

Paris, December 19, 2008 – The French government and Dassault Aviation have signed an agreement paving the way for Dassault Aviation to acquire Alcatel-Lucent’s stake in Thales, joining the French government as core shareholder in Thales. The agreement follows authorization by the French Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Employment and a ruling by French stock market authority AMF that the operation does not require Dassault Aviation to launch a mandatory takeover bid. Relations between the French government and Dassault Aviation will be governed by a shareholders’ agreement virtually identical to the current agreement between the French government and Alcatel-Lucent, under which the French government maintains a dominant position in relation to Dassault Aviation. All of Alcatel-Lucent’s commitments with regards to preserving the French government’s strategic interests in Thales will also be guaranteed by Dassault Aviation.

News from the Fuehrer Bunker – Premature Victory Claim

BrownCartoon6

The musak playing in the Fuehrer Bunker deep under Whitehall was deafening. The Dam Buster’s March was followed by the sound track from 633 Squadron in an endless loop. This was to signal the claim of victory over Germany by “Bottler” Brown who has rushed off to Afghanistan to be photographed with real heroes in the hope that some of their glory rubs off on him.

It has been an extraordinary week for “Bottler”.

Just as he was planning to land the Lieb Standarten Peter Mandelson in Iceland to give the Icelandic terrorists a thrashing, a second front was opened up by the Panzer Division Steinbruck. PD Steinbruck launched its attack on a broad front, pointing out the crassness of the Blair Brown Regime’s failed economic policy that threatens to bring Britain to bankruptcy.

Then “Bottler” surprised the world by claiming victory over Germany after the apparent surrender of Angela “Rosa Klebb” Merkel who joined the flock of petrified European leaders (less a lamentation of swans than a murder of ravens) in agreeing to throw money at the two spectres of depression and stagflation.

While “Bottler” was on his photo op mission to Afghanistan, the Germans proved far from defeated when the German Ambassador to Britain Georg Boomgarten launched a new attack from close to the Fuehrer Bunker in London. Boomgarten pointed out that Germany could afford some modest help to German financial intuitions because unlike Britain under the Blair Brown Regime jackboot, democratic Germany had no housing “bubble”, Germans were good savers who do not have massive credit card debits, unemployment is falling, Germany is still a healthy trading nation with a trading surplus, and the euro is not going down the tube, contrasting with the Blair Brown achievement of rapidly rising inflation, massive personal credit card debt, rapidly falling personal savings, a bursting housing “bubble”, terrifying increases in unemployment, a huge trading debt, and Sterling in freefall.

Boomgarten however failed to fully press home his attack by pointing out that the Blair Brown answer to its failed economic policies and failed bank bailouts is to prepare to print money in the hope of arresting deflation and creating inflation, with one Blair Brown functionary calling for the Bank of England to emulate South American dictators in creating hyper inflation.

Its all a world away from the heady day when “Bottler” proudly claimed to the House of Commons that he had saved the world. Then, the Caped Crusader had been looking forward to training his new Robin, Obama, and giving Jonnie Foreigner a bloody nose – or at least another lengthy patronizing lecture on how “Bottler” had saved the world.

IWA Gives Grant To Uttoxeter Canal Feasibility Study

narrowboat

One of Staffordshire’s lost waterways has been given a helping hand by The Inland Waterways Association (IWA) with a grant of £5,000 to the Caldon and Uttoxeter Canals Trust towards a feasibility study into the restoration of the Uttoxeter Canal. The study will investigate how to restore the canal between Froghall and Uttoxeter, which although closed as long ago as 1849 is considered restorable by many waterways experts.

In making the grant, IWA Restoration Commitee chairman Vaughan Welch said:

“This is one of many grants that IWA makes to similar organisations during the year to enable planning and scoping works to take place to help unlock funding for restoration. In making this award, IWA was conscious of the Trust’s public awareness and political lobbying campaign which has to date successfully engaged and got the interest of the various local authorities, to the extent that restoration of the Uttoxeter Canal is ‘pencilled’ into their Local Development Framework processes and on their regeneration agendas, and the authorities are now pressing for a feasibility study in order that the restoration scheme can be formally recognised.”

One Hundred Years of British Naval Aviation

FAA100CoverImage

Just out, this eBook tells the story of British Naval Aviation, and a gripping story it is.

Fly Navy 100 will celebrate one hundred years of the Fleet Air Arm in May 2009.

The full story of British Naval Aviation starts during the Napoleonic Wars at the start of the Nineteenth Century.

Since 1908, the Royal Navy has fought a continuing battle to retain or regain control of naval aviation. Royal Navy aviators have been transfered into the Army’s Royal Flying Corps, then back under Admiralty service when the Royal Naval Air Service was formed one month before the outbreak of war in 1914, then transferred into the newly formed Royal Air Force in 1918, before returning to the Royal Navy in 1937 as the Fleet Air Arm.

The author has begun with the papers of Admiral Thomas Cockrane, followed the use of balloons and man-carrying kites, into the story of powered naval flight, two World Wars and a selection of other conflicts in which British Naval Aviation has played an important role. The author then continues on into the future with new carriers, supersonic STOVL fighters and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles that are starting to take over roles from manned naval aircraft.

The eBook contains a great many images, including images that have never been seen by the public before.

Mugabe Brown, the Maddest, Baddest Man in Town

BrownCartoon2

The recent attempt at political bullying by arresting an a member of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, and Shadow Minister, under terrorism charges deeply shocked Britons across the political spectrum, but what at first seemed to be an illegal act of the police state is turning out to contain more disturbing aspects at every stage of the unfolding story.

On face value this is “Bottler” Brown at his most cowardly. Encouraging political police to act outrageously and then trying to deny all responsibility when the bully’s victim proves able to punch him firmly on the nose.

Conspiracy theorists will point to a long line of actions by the Blair Brown Regime to turn Britain into a police state. The examples they give are correct and a shaming record of abuse by a Government in any country, even Zimbabwe. There is a conspiracy case to answer, because these multiple acts, over some eleven years, indicate a premeditated and sustained assault on democracy by a totalitarian regime.

There is another possibility and that seems to be the defence being offered by “Bottler” Brown and his motley crew of political rejects.

jacquiSmith

“Jackboots” Smith is the most incompetent Home Secretary ever to hold this senior office

Reich’s Fuehrer Jackie “Jackboots” Smith was the first to advance this defence.

She immediately claimed that she had absolutely no control over either her own department, the Home Office, or over the Metropolitan Police. She claimed that they had kept her completely in the dark over the planned arrest of Damien Green and the intention to do this in the most humiliating manner as a warning to any individual who does not blindly accept the Blair Brown Regime view of reality. She asks us to believe that the Metropolitan Stasi telephoned Opposition Leader, Cameron and London Mayor Johnson to give them prior notice of the assault on Damien Green by the anti-terror squad, but didn’t consider that the Home Secretary had a need to know. Smith also claims that her Permanent Secretary, an unelected Civil Servant, now makes policy for the Home Office and not the Home Secretary.

This defence is a claim by Smith that she is totally irrelevant and powerless to control a major department of State. Anyone with even the smallest shred of honour and half a brain cell would immediately resign and slink away from public view. Not “Jackboots”, she proudly wears gross incompetence as a badge of honour.

“Bottler” Brown is advancing a similar defence. Any Prime Minister taking this view of himself should immediately resign and make way for someone who can do the job – someone did say a few times recently that this is “A Serious Time for Serious People” and not a time for criminal incompetents who have zero control over the Departments of State and the Ministers who head them. The claim to have a long experience of complete incompetence is hardly a qualification for heading a government. In those circumstances, a complete novice would be more appropriate.

There is a possibility that the Scottish Prime Minister and his Home Secretary may be telling the truth and police and Civil Servants have acted illegally without the Blair Brown Regime’s knowledge. If that was really the case, any honourable and effective government would have made sure that these malefactors were taken into custody and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

SpeakerMartin2

Then there is the strange case of Speaker “Gorbals Mick” Martin and his Sergeant at Arms. They have a duty to Parliament to protect the Palace of Westminster and the Members of Parliament from the abuse of power by any Government. It appears that they caved in to the invasion of the Palace of Westminster by anti-terror police and stood by while police removed confidential documents from Damien Green’s office. This papers were confidential documents sent by Constituents to their Member of Parliament. That appears to be a grave breech of the civil rights of those Constituents. “Gorbals Mick” has an established record of being a stoge for the Blair Brown Regime and it is surprising that MPs have not long ago fired him from a post he appears totally unsuitable to hold.
