New research reveals the cost of poor housing in London
A new BRE Trust study has found that 15% of households in London can be classified as living in ‘poor housing’ and that reducing the worst health and safety hazards in these properties could save the NHS around £56m per year in treatment costs for housing related problems, such as respiratory and cardiovascular disease and falls around the home. ’There has been a long-recognised relationship between poor housing and poor health, but until recently, it has not been possible to estimate the associated cost to society.
TEA PARTY PATRIOTS STATEMENT
ON MEDIA ATTACKS AGAINST OUR MOVEMENT
Since the Tea Party movement began five years ago, we have been under attack by the media, declared dead over and over again and criticized by congressional leadership, from people like Mitch McConnell and John Boehner whom we thought would welcome our spirited work to help get our fiscal house in order. Yet, just as we are building for the 2014 elections, we see more and more scrutiny and more attempts to delegitimize the hard work of Tea Party members all over the country. Such was the case in a new story by the Washington Post Sunday.
We recently brought to the public’s attention more ludicrous EU diktats – this time targeting Britain’s filter coffee machines. This is apparently to save what would be no doubt a miniscule amount of energy. From next January, coffee-machines will have to automatically turn off after an hour leaving people with cold coffee. I was quoted in the Sun on Saturday( £): “Not content with the £55 million they take from Britain every day, our European masters have now come after our hot coffee. More than one in five Britons own a coffee machine and could be affected by this latest diktat from Brussels.” The story appeared in the Sunday Telegraph the day after along with the Daily Express online.
Lately, it seems any news out of Washington is news about our elected officials proposing and debating more ways for Washington to interfere in our lives. From Obamacare, to IRS abuse, to amnesty for illegal immigrants, to so-called equal pay legislation, it seems Washington is constantly telling us how to run our own lives. But considering the federal government’s own financial track record, what it can’t get away with, is telling us how to use and spend our hard-earned income.
