It has been a very busy week for our campaign since I wrote to you immediately after David Cameron’s EU Speech. You can read our response here.
The day after the speech I was invited onto the BBC Television News Channel to discuss leaving the EU. You can watch the video here. As you can see, the pro-EU spokesman didn’t answer the central point – we do not need to be in the EU to trade with it. The EU is negotiating a free trade agreement with Japan, yet no one insists on Japan being a member of the EU. It has agreements with South Korea, Mexico and Singapore. None of these independent states are part of the EU.
Get Britain Out will keep on saying we want trade with the EU but there is no need to be a part of the EU.
On Wednesday we released an opinion poll showing that 79% of the Great British Public want to keep immigration controls on Bulgaria and Romania. From 1st January 2014, EU law removes these controls, which will lead to another huge wave of immigration our government simply cannot control. All regions, all age groups and the majority of voters from all political parties want to keep these controls. Yet while we are in the EU our government cannot do a thing about it. The only way to control our borders is to leave the EU.
Our poll was the front page of the Daily Express on Wednesday. BBC Radio Nottingham also interviewed me about the poll, which you can listen to here. You can see our press release on our website.
On Thursday we released the results of another poll showing 61% demand an In/Out EU Referendum before the next election, not after. Cameron has already told us he will not even begin renegotiation until after he is re-elected again in 2015. However, all current opinion polls indicate he will no longer be our Prime Minister in the next parliament, so we will be stuffed! No referendum. No chance to get out of the EU. Even more rules from Brussels. More of our money wasted.
In a big smack down to Ed Miliband, 61% of Labour voters want a referendum and want one soon! All party leaders should listen to the Great British Public and call for a vote for British independence.
Even today, Lord Ashdown has thrown a tantrum and said Britain will leave the EU. I’ve always found it odd that the Liberal ‘Democrats’ insist the people should be denied a vote on our membership of the EU.
We must Get Britain Out as soon as possible.
