Shadow Grows Over British Elections

There is a growing shadow across the British General Election to be held on Thursday May 6.

The police are now dealing with a rapidly growing number of investigations into frauds alleged to have been committed by Labour and the LibDems. More than fifty police separate investigations have begun and more are expected.

The investigations have been triggered by growing concern amongst Returning Officers who have been responsible for calling in the police as fraud has been detected in Postal Ballots.

Most investigations are into apparent fraud related to postal ballots although it is understood that a number of cases involve identity fraud and other serious electoral law offenses.

It is feared that electoral fraud may determine the final result, although Returning Officers have pointed out that any MP elected with the aid of fraudsters would be prevented from taking or holding the seat and be required to stand in a new election.

This may prove to be seriously damaging to Britain’s economy because the finance industry has been banking on a clear Conservative win to be followed by an emergency budget and immediate steps to tackle Britain’s debt mountain which is of similar proportions to that of Greece.

If fraud results in a hung Parliament with a need to re-run a growing number of seats, there will be no clear Government able to deal with the economic crisis in time to head off panic action by the finance industry.

The last two General Elections have seen a series of Labour frauds which have been investigated and resulted in criminal convictions. One judge observed that Labour electoral fraud was endemic and would make a banana republic blush. The signs so far is that fraud is even higher now and that the Lib Dems have also bee implicated. This is a sorry chapter for a proud democracy and cries out for rapid and effective reforms of Parliament and the anti-fraud controls to safeguard future elections.
