Help Us Get Rid of the IRS!

Lately, it seems any news out of Washington is news about our elected officials proposing and debating more ways for Washington to interfere in our lives. From Obamacare, to IRS abuse, to amnesty for illegal immigrants, to so-called equal pay legislation, it seems Washington is constantly telling us how to run our own lives. But considering the federal government’s own financial track record, what it can’t get away with, is telling us how to use and spend our hard-earned income.

What’s more, until the Department of Justice and Congress complete a full and thorough investigation of IRS targeting of conservative groups, Americans can’t trust that their tax dollars are being spent wisely and efficiently. Organizations made up of law-abiding citizens were targeted for heightened scrutiny simply because of their political beliefs. Instead of continuing in a state of denial over that First Amendment violation, Washington needs to deal with its bureaucratic mess and stop pointing fingers at the American people.
We at Tea Party Patriots believe that if there’s one thing lawmakers can do to return to us control over our own finances, it’s to repeal the 16th Amendment. Why is it, that in the land of freedom and opportunity, the more you succeed, the more the government takes away? The income tax is an over-complicated and unjust system that spawns byzantine loopholes, deductions and regulations. Will you join us, by signing our petition here to repeal the 16th Amendment?
One lawmaker in Washington who recognizes the need to do away with the income tax is Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma. Last week, Bridenstine participated in a TPP-hosted tele town hall to discuss legislation he introduced in the House that would repeal the 16th Amendment. Tea Party Patriots applauds Bridenstine’s effort to seriously reform our tax laws. Repealing the 16th Amendment is just the beginning of this important effort, however. Tea Party Patriots supports replacing the current federal income tax system that is too complex and filled with special deals for powerful interests with either a flat or a fair tax system that is simple and uniform and sets us on a path to a debt-free future.
At the end of the day, reforming the tax code and investigating the IRS is about challenging the status quo in Washington that says wasteful spending and higher taxes are the way to ensure a debt-free future. It’s time for Washington to get serious about spending cuts and balanced budgets. It’s time to recognize that leaving more money in the hands of the people is the best way to ensure a long-term economic recovery. Personal freedom has always been at the bedrock of our society. We need to make sure it stays that way.
