For the first time in decades, the House Republicans passed a comprehensive tax reform bill this week – the first step towards putting a bill on President Trump’s desk by the end of the year. The Senate needs to move forward with its bill that would repeal ObamaCare’s individual mandate and they need to ensure that tax cuts will go into effect in 2018. If both chambers work together, the GOP has the opportunity to reform the tax code for the first time since the 1980s and at the same time provide relief from ObamaCare by repealing the insidious individual mandate.
This week, Tea Party Patriots Foundation teamed up with former Reagan economic adviser, Dr. Arthur Laffer to demonstrate the impact a simpler, flatter, and fairer tax code would have on our nation. Dr. Laffer helped create former President Reagan’s tax plan, which is similar to President Trump’s plan to make America more competitive and allow investment capital to flow back into America once again. Watch Arthur Laffer discuss the benefits of President Trump’s tax plan.
Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund Chairman Jenny Beth Martin wrote in The Hill about the lack of transparency from Congress about sexual harassment claims. Have you ever wondered how Congress manages claims of sexual harassment against members and its staffers? We call it the “shush fund,” filled with taxpayer dollars to hush up and pay off those who accuse members of Congress and their staffers of sexual misconduct.
“We, the taxpayers who have been paying for more than two decades to quietly settle literally hundreds of sexual harassment claims against members of Congress and their staffs, have a right to know which members and staffers have made use of the hush money over the years,” Martin wrote. “Going forward, taxpayers should have knowledge about how that fund is used.”
Congress would rather use our tax dollars to sweep any ‘sensitive mess’ under the rug. Hard-working Americans deserve to know which senators, representatives or staffers are using their tax dollars to pay off victims of sexual misconduct.
Senate Republicans were able to confirm a few of President Trump’s judicial nominees for circuit court positions this month. While Tea Party Patriots Citizen Fund applauds the efforts of Senate Republicans for making these confirmations, there is still, however, a backlog of judicial nominees to be confirmed. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats are abusing the debate rules to obstruct and delay confirmation votes and creating a backlog of well-qualified judges awaiting a vote. Senator James Lankford has proposed that the rules be modified to allow for no more than eight hours of debate on presidential nominees. Sign the petition urging the Senate to update its antiquated debate rules and stop Senate gridlock!
