Next month MPs will be asked to vote again on Brexit.
This time they will be asked to pass legislation called the Repeal Bill which allows the UK to leave the EU. If MPs support the Repeal Bill it means we can start taking back control of all the powers we have given to Brussels since we joined the EU over the last 40 years.
Although Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn have both promised to respect the result of the referendum, some MPs are threatening to block the Repeal Bill. These MPs want to keep Britain in the EU’s Single Market and Customs Union. Let’s be clear: if we stay in the Single Market and Customs Union then we have not left the EU and we won’t take back control of our borders, laws, money and trade. Instead we will leave control in the hands of EU politicians and their elite friends in the multinational corporations and banks.
That is why it is so important that in September MPs vote to back the referendum by supporting the Repeal Bill without amendments that would keep us in the Single Market and Customs Union. This is what 17.4 million people voted for in June 2016 – is it really so unreasonable to ask our politicians to respect the result of the biggest democratic vote in our history?
In the coming days Change Britain will be launching a campaign to ask people like you to email their MP telling them to vote in favour of the Repeal Bill without amendments designed to keep us in by the back door. To prepare for this vital campaign I need your help. Please contact family and friends who you know share your support for a successful, clean Brexit and ask them to join our campaign today by signing up at www.changebritain.org
It’s up to us to help Theresa May’s government make Brexit happen. Together we can change this country for the better.
