A critical deadline is coming up that has far-reaching ramifications for our movement. On February 27, 2014, the public comment period will close for newly-proposed regulations from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If enacted, these regulations will in essence make the IRS targeting against Tea Party groups legal. We cannot allow this assault on free speech!
The IRS has already received nearly 70,000 comments on the proposal, but we’re asking all our supporters to send their own comment to the IRS before the period closes later this week. We need to make our voice too loud to be ignored.

A year ago, it was revealed that the IRS had been targeting conservative organizations and tea party groups like ours for audits, and tax-exempt reviews. Not only was it a gross abuse of power, but it effectively silenced millions of Americans who care about limited government and fiscal responsibility.
Now, the IRS is attempting to put those targeting practices into the regulatory code and make them permanent. The rules would expand the definition of candidate-related political activities to include things like voter guides, voter registration, and forums. That kind of political activity, however, isn’t covered under tax-exempt 501(c)4 status.
We’re calling on all our supporters to leave comments on the IRS’ regulations website. Visit TeaPartyPatriots.org/irsregulations to find out how. Let the IRS know that we will not be silenced! This kind of selective targeting by administration officials is the kind of thing that should be investigated and punished, not entered into the regulatory code. Make your voice heard before February 27!
