|Since the New Year there have been some significant political developments. In the EU, Ireland has asked the EU for millions of euros in financial assistance if and when the UK leaves with ‘No Deal’. It is apparent, Ireland’s political bravado bluff has been called. Perhaps if the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, had understood where his priorities should lie – with supporting Brexit – he would not have to be going to the EU with his begging bowl! Last weekend Theresa May was in Brussels speaking to Jean-Claude Juncker and other European Leaders to no effect. No real surprise there. It must be obvious to her, ‘No Deal with WTO Rules’ is the only way to secure the proper Brexit Britain voted for!
Parliament resumed on Monday with the same arguments. Boris Johnson wrote of how people must not be bullied into accepting Theresa May’s Deal. The consensus around Westminster is of how opinions and MPs have hardened their positions. May’s tactic of getting Constituents, like you, to urge MP’s to back her Deal has failed. So, it is vital you keep up the pressure please – see how you can help towards the bottom of this page. No Deal has in fact gained ground, as people want a clear, clean, comprehensive exit from the EU. Global Britain, together with Labour Leave published a brilliant document authored by The Rt Hon the Lord Lilley and Cllr Brendan Chilton: 30 Truths about leaving on WTO terms. The opportunities are brilliantly outlined, and this is a MUST-READ for everyone.
This week saw the broadcast of the Channel 4 political drama; ‘Brexit the Uncivil War’. The piece mainly focused on the Vote Leave campaign and their chief strategist Dominic Cummings. While on the whole the show had some good comedy and certainly fulfilled on drama. There was a clear bias against Vote Leave and other Leave groups, especially in the final few minutes which included on screen writing, talking about the unproven accusations against Vote Leave, as well as trying to draw a link between Brexit and Trump. Nothing was mentioned about the suggested illegal actions of the Remain campaign.
This week, in conversations with prominent Brexiteer backbencher MP, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lord Lilley (a former Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and President of the Board of Trade), our Director, Jayne Adye was assured a ‘No Deal WTO Brexit’ would still the best Brexit we should be aiming for. On the issue of the Government’s defeat on the Amendment on the Finance Bill this week, this is not a major incident and does not threaten the likelihood of a WTO Brexit. Usually when a government fails to pass such a Finance Bill, the Chancellor resigns. I haven’t seen a copy of Philip Hammond’s resignation letter yet! The defeat was reported as more Project Fear to reduce the potential of No Deal. We can confirm it will not. It is not a loss of consequence for the Government and will not, in any way, lessen the ability of the UK to leave the EU with No Deal and trade under WTO terms.
We must also remember May’s Deal is not the only deal. We have previously been offered a Canada Plus-style deal by Donald Tusk and the UK did not reject this option. So we can only presume it could still be on the table. It seems it was merely set aside, as the Prime Minister pursued what has become May’s betrayal Deal. We MUST not settle for May’s deal. There are far better deals to be had, and which have been circulating, but Theresa May has chosen to ignore them. When her Deal is voted down on Tuesday, we should pursue a Bold British Brexit, and ignore Jeremy Corbyn’s opportunism, calling for a General Election. He has even admitted today, if elected, he would have to ask the EU to delay Article 50 and Brexit, as Labour does not have any Brexit Deal plans of their own to offer the country!
If May loses the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement vote on Tuesday, it is most likely a ‘Vote of No Confidence’ will be launched. In response to this, Michael Gove aptly responded, it was “B*****ks”. The Environment Secretary quoted Barry Gardiner, the Shadow International Trade Secretary, who once used the same word to describe his own Party’s EU policy. Praising Gardiner’s “truth and perfect clarity”. Mr Gove said MPs were grateful for his casting of light on “the testicular nature” of Labour’s six Brexit tests!
This week, another controversy has been the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, allowing the Dominic Grieve Amendment, which would mean the Government must produce a Plan B within three days. This is a clear breach of standard practice, which sided with Remainer endeavours. In response, the Prime Minister has now demanded an explanation, and has requested legal advice on the legitimacy of the Speaker’s decision.
The most shocking development of the week was the revelation of Former MI6 head Sir Richard Dearlove and ex-former Chief of the Defence Staff Lord Guthrie having written to Conservative Association Chairs, claiming the EU Withdrawal Agreement threatens national security. They have pointed out the Agreement is putting at risk our place at the heart of NATO and the functioning of the vital Five Eyes information sharing alliance (made up of the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand). 10 Downing Street have dismissed this advice – of course…
In addition, the Withdrawal Agreement would severely compromise our Special Relationship of Intelligence sharing which we have had with the United States since the Second World War. We would no longer be able to choose what information leaves this covenant. We would instead be subjugated to sharing all the information regarding persons of interests and cyber security which we receive, with the EU, betraying the trust between ourselves and the USA. This is just one example of a proposed security arrangement which would severely undermine the security of the United Kingdom, our historic alliances around the world and our ability to have our own security policy. This Deal must be defeated if we are to have and independent and effective security policy of our own.
Today, the Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has joined the chorus of Project Fear scaremongering, by suggesting if May’s Deal fails, then it could risk a “Brexit paralysis” and be a threat to Brexit itself. Juncker also commented it was Britain who proposed to woeful Irish backstop in the first place! Could this have been the work of Olly Robins? This is amidst another Civil Service whistle-blower who today has revealed in confidence to BrexitCentral, the horrors of the “triple lock” structure designed to stop Brexit or tie us into an EVEN WORSE position as a vassal state of the EU.
Finally, our Director, Jayne Adye was informed by a prominent Brexit backbencher this week that MPs only read Constituents’ e-mails and letters, and will ignore e-Mails from national campaigns, like Get Britain Out. This is appalling, so it is vital for YOU to reignite the passion which saw us successful when we voted Leave in the EU Referendum in June 2016.
MP’s are frequently commenting on the percentage of Leave or Remain letters and e-mails they are receiving, so it is vital you write again please, so your MPs truly understand how important Brexit is to us all, individually. We need to get the best the Best Brexit for the United Kingdom, and we at Get Britain Out are trying to help free us all of the shackles of the European Union as we build our future on the world stage.
Please write more letters and send more e-Mails to your MPs as soon as possible, so their Inbox and their Postbags are full – even if you have written before, and whether or not you have received replies before. Even if they do not reply, it makes a massive difference. It is vital you try again please, so your voice is heard, as they are your elected representatives. You MUST include your address as it confirms you are in their Constituency and they are your MP.
We have drafted you another letter or e-Mail (see the link below) to send or deliver to your local MP’s Constituency. Please encourage your MPs to vote against the Prime Minister’s Brexit Deal next Tuesday, so this is URGENT, and get behind a REAL Brexit Deal for the United Kingdom.
Here is a link to a sample letter here, and don’t forget to add in some personal thoughts too!
You can find out who your local MP is and their Constituency office address here, or ring the MP’s secretary in the House of Commons before next Tuesday to get the address. You can also ring them to arrange a surgery appointment, and take family members and friends along with you too! We also recommend you contact your local Conservative Association. Many Associations Chairs are equally as frustrated as we are, so it is worthwhile telling them your views as well.
If you do not already know if your MP is a Leave or a Remain supporter, you will be able to find out from our comprehensive chart, which also indicates how your MP has voted during the EU Referendum Bill votes here.
Good luck. This is really important, and please let us know you get on – e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Remember, your MP should NEVER be too busy to address a Constituent’s concerns – you voted them in in the first place! This way, your concerns about our shambles-of-a-Government’s Brexit negotiations will not go unnoticed for much longer, and you and Get Britain Out can help to save Brexit just in the nick of time!
THIS IS VITAL TO ENSURE YOUR VOICE IS HEARD!
The Brexit Vote was the most important vote in our lifetimes. The Government were given the biggest mandate for Leave of any vote in any General Election before, and this is the most important issue since the end of the last World War! The result of the EU Referendum MUST be properly honoured – and enforced. We must not be betrayed!
It’s only 77 days now until we take back control and regain our independence!!!
BRIEFLY, THIS IS SOME OF WHAT WE HAVE BEEN UP TO SINCE OUR LAST UPDATE:
- The Rt Honourable David Jones, an ex Brexit Secretary, has written exclusively for Get Britain Out in an excellent piece on how No Deal isn’t an end, but a new beginning.
- Our Joel Casement, writing in Comment Central, has argued how constituents, not MPs, have the power in decisions. It is not for MPs to ignore their constituents, but to act on their desire and wish, as constituents have the power.
- Writing for The Commentator, our Joshua Mackenzie-Lawrie has written an evocative piece on the rise of the German- inspired EU Federal Superstate, looking closely at the growth of the EU army and the concerns about security within May’s betrayal deal.
- A huge friend of Get Britain Out, and publisher of many of our articles for The Commentator, Robin Shepherd, who is Senior Adviser to the Halifax International Security Forum, and former head of the Europe Programme at Chatham House, has written an excellent and insightful piece for The American Interest on why Brussels should be wary of a cancelled Brexit.
That’s it for this ACTION edition of our e-Bulletin – and a massive thank-you, as always, for your ACTION and for all your support.
We will keep on fighting for the Best Brexit for the United Kingdom, with your help if possible, so we can take back control of our laws, borders, trade and money.
Jayne Adye, Campaign Director and the Team at Get Britain Out
