A Merry Christmas, A Shutdown Showdown, and Other Thing You Need To Know…

Before you tune out the current political chaos on the Hill, we want to wish you a Merry Christmas! From all of us at Tea Party Patriots Action, we are thankful for you and your activism. The tea party wouldn’t be what it is without your support. We hope you enjoy this time with your loved ones!

After immense pressure from grassroots activists like you, the House of Representatives finally went back to the drawing board and passed a continuing resolution that included the $5 billion in wall funding that President Trump requested. The bill then went to the Senate where a compromise was finally reached on a motion to proceed to debate the bill. But that’s as far as they would get. Around 8pm last night, Senators went home for the night with no deal in sight. And as promised, President Trump is allowing for a partial shutdown until Congress can put together a bill that will prioritize border security. President Trump MUST remain strong on this issue until $5 billion of border wall funding is added to a spending bill that will end the partial shutdown. If you are able, call your representative and senators and urge them to vote for a spending bill with $5 billion border wall funding. There is a good possibility that some members will not be answering phones due much of their staff heading home for the holidays. In those cases, leave a message and tweet your Members of Congress if you can.

Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin responded to the temporary, partial government shutdown over funding for the border wall and released the following statement:

”Schumer Shutdown II, the sequel, is literally about Chuck Schumer shutting down the government as the first attack of the 2020 presidential campaign. Five billion dollars out of a more than $4 trillion budget for a border wall to keep our country safe and secure is not too much to ask — that $5 billion is a rounding error in Washington. Schumer needs to put America First, not his personal politics ;— and we all KNOW it’s nothing but politics, because Schumer voted for funding a physical barrier previously, in 2006 and 2013. The only reason Schumer refuses to support a physical barrier now is because the president is named ‘Trump,’ and Schumer is doing everything he can to deny the President the ability to keep his campaign promises. We applaud President Trump and all who voted with him — they’re keeping their promise to the American people. We stand with them and all Americans who understand the first and foremost priority of our government is to keep our country safe.”

We will keep you posted as things develop.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was signed into law exactly a year ago today. The law cut taxes for the middle class, cut the corporate tax from 35 percent to 21 percent, and gutted the individual mandate of ObamaCare.

A year later, the law has boosted the economy and grown the GDP. Despite what the liberal, mainstream media have reported, the law is indeed paying for itself. The Treasury Department reported revenue collections in 2018 were $3.3 trillion, which is nearly $14 billion more than in fiscal 2017. State revenue collections are also up, thanks to the growing economy boosted by the law. Individuals were saving an average of $1,400 for individuals and $3,000 for married couples with two children in 2018.

And that’s all after just one year. Over the next decade, the savings coupled with higher wages will average $26,000 for individuals and nearly $45,000 for married couples with two kids. We can expect more jobs, higher pay, a stronger economy and companies and individuals reinvesting into America’s market. Happy birthday, Tax Cuts and Jobs Act!
