Commenting on the Government Veterans in the Criminal Justice Review by Conservative MP Stephen Phillips QC, Fergus Williams, Head of Operations at Walking With The Wounded said:

“Project NOVA, a joint venture delivered by Walking With The Wounded and The Forces Employment Charity ‘RFEA’, welcomes this review by the Ministry of Justice into Veterans in the Criminal Justice System. NOVA has engaged with both Rory Stewart MP and subsequently Stephen Philips MP during the review informing them on the current need, the current provision for veterans and what best practice should look like.

Project Nova has been designed by Walking With The Wounded and RFEA as the ‘on the ground’ early intervention programme to identify veterans caught up in a cycle of low level anti-social and criminal activity and to support them back into mainstream society and employment.

Early indications thus far from Project Nova have shown that just over 2% of veterans engaged with under Project Nova have reoffended. Project Nova stature within the counties of Norfolk & Suffolk is growing constantly and referrals are now being received from community organisations identifying that some of their veterans are on the periphery of entering the Criminal Justice System. This was one of the aims of Project Nova to catch the veteran before entering Police custody.

We look forward to assisting with the delivery of the recommendations of this review.”
