How are your Thanksgiving plans coming along? The craziness of the last few years – politically, yes, but also culturally – has made me especially grateful for a national holiday that focuses the attention of the entire nation on the concept of thankfulness.
What if instead of inciting envy or stoking division among Americans, or encouraging people who live in the greatest country in the history of the world to view themselves as victims, the political and cultural trend in our country was one of gratitude? Imagine the seismic shift that would produce in our everyday lives, our nation, and our world.
I can envision that world – one where individually and as a nation, we are thankful, and it also reminds me of Jesus’ call to do to others as you would have them do to you. With all of that in mind, I think we should commit together to speak and show our gratitude more publicly and more often.
I believe that teaching others about gratitude has the potential to change hearts and minds about fundamental principles and truths that could change the course of our nation.
And so, allow me to say publicly: Thank you! I am so thankful for you.
I hope you have a most blessed Thanksgiving, and that you get some rest away from the crazy world of politics. Put your phone away, turn off the news, and enjoy your family and friends or even just the quiet a holiday can bring.

P.S. I really want you to take a break from the drama and intensity of the last few weeks, but if you know that you will be around a friend or family member who won’t let it go, and insists on having a conversation about what’s going on in D.C., you can look over our latest memo before you see that person. We’ve got your back! But make sure to enjoy the turkey and pie too!
