The shutdown ends, border security still needed, our 10 Year Anniversary, school choice and other things you need to know this week…

President Trump ended the partial government shutdown by signing a spending bill that will fund the government through February 15. The spending bill, however, does not include funding for the border wall. Tea Party Patriots Action Honorary Chairman Jenny Beth Martin released a statement responding to the announcement:

“The President has just put Congress on notice that if Congress cannot find a way to provide appropriate funding for border security — including funding for a wall (permanent, physical barriers — whatever you want to call it, as long as it is a permanent barrier) which Republicans and Democrats have supported in the past — he will invoke his powers under the National Emergencies Act to secure our border. It is time for Members of Congress to end the political games, get over their hatred of the President, and work with President Trump to provide the security our nation deserves.”

We expect negotiations to continue and urge Congress to reach an agreement to fully fund border security before the new February 15th deadline. Please sign the petition urging Congress to support border security and to make the safety of Americans a top priority. When you are done, please share this petition on social media and with your network. It’s important that we all are vocal to our lawmakers about our support for a secure border and stronger immigration laws.

For “save the date” purposes, please mark down September 12-14, 2019 for the official 10 year anniversary celebration of the Tea Party movement to be held in Washington, DC. Our original plan was to have the event in June, but due to the government shutdown and the impasse on border security, we decided that there is a good chance we will need to be in Washington again at the end of this fiscal year. We understand how difficult it can be to make it to Washington, DC, so we decided it would be best to only have to call on our supporters to be there one time this year.

We are still working out the details of changing the dates with the venue, but look forward to announcing more details in the coming weeks and months. We hope that you are able to join us and wanted to give you as much notice to be able to plan your trip! Stay tuned!

As we look back over the last 10 years, we can think of so many great times and good memories from the Tea Party movement. We’d love to hear about the memories and the moments that you hold dear. Please share any memories that you have of the Tea Party movement that you think would be beneficial to our anniversary celebration. Please also share pictures, news articles, and even videos that you have (you can text them to 404-996-1717 or email them to We look forward to hearing from you and we may even use your submission in our promotional materials leading up to the 10 year event.

We couldn’t have done the many great things we have accomplished as a movement without your involvement the last 10 years. We look forward to hearing from you!

This week was School Choice Week and Senator Ted Cruz rallied on behalf of school choice on the Senate floor, urging the support of taxpaying citizens in Texas as well as all over the country. Please retweet Sen. Cruz’s tweet to show your support for school choice! Parents should have the right to choose which learning institution – whether it be public school, private school, charter school or homes school— best fits their child and the public education funds should follow the child to the school and/or services that best fit the child’s needs.
